About Me
Hi, thanks for dropping by!
The Plymouth to Banjul challenge is an annual car event for charity. It roughly follows the route of the more famous Dakar Rally.
Starting in Europe, it then runs through Morocco, Western Sahara, Muritania, Senegal and into the Gamba to Banjul.
The aim is to buy a cheap left hand drive vehicle and drive it across some very inhospitable terrain to the Gambia, where it is donated and auctioned off. The funds raised are distributed to local worthy causes.
In 2008 I decided this was a challenge I need to undertake and so I found myself a team mate and we bought a car.
Our team was made up of myself, Ed Butcher and Alan Page. We are both folically challenged and decided that an apt team name would be the Smooth Heads. This became even more fo a joke, when on e of our main sponsors was Definitions hairdressing!
Our choice of car.....an old red Vauxhall Astra....what else would you go across rough terrain and dessert in?!
Covered in our sponsors logos and loaded up with donated medical supplies we headed off to Plymouth to catch the ferry...
